80 Years of Innovation. The Future Starts Now.
For eight decades, the House Institute has helped redefine what is possible in hearing health. From developing the world's first cochlear implant and pioneering surgical techniques still used today, to training thousands of physicians around the world, House has helped transform millions of lives through research, education, innovation, and compassionate care. This tribute celebrates the legacy of Dr. John House and Dr. Derald Brackmann—two physicians whose dedication, mentorship, and vision helped shape the field of otology and neurotology for generations. But this story isn't only about the past. Today, House physicians and researchers are advancing the next generation of breakthroughs in hearing loss, tinnitus, Ménière's disease, and vestibular schwannomas through genetic research, biobanking, clinical studies, and emerging technologies. The breakthroughs of yesterday made today's care possible. With your support, the next breakthrough is within reach. Help Write the Next 80 Years: hifla.org/donate

Unheard: The Ears of Ménière’s—With Dr. Kevin Peng
We’re proud to be part of a new documentary, Unheard: The Ears of Ménière’s—a visceral and haunting exploration of an invisible illness, told through the ears of those who often suffer in silence. Unheard is an independent film currently in production, produced and directed by entertainment industry veteran Janine McGoldrick, who was diagnosed with Ménière’s in 2013. The film shares powerful firsthand experiences to bring greater awareness, understanding, and empathy to vestibular disorders. Janine's mission is to elevate Ménière’s in the public consciousness and drive more funding for research. To date, production has filmed our very own Dr. Kevin Peng (Clinician Scientist at the House Institute Foundation and Neurotologist at PIH Health House Clinic), alongside individuals living with Ménière’s, including Guy Kawasaki (host of Remarkable People podcast, Chief Evangelist of Canva, and author), Nicolle Cure (artist and VeDA ambassador), and Glenn Schweitzer (Ménière’s author and tinnitus wellness coach).
